Fangirl Stalking Military Edition: Keeping the Home Fires Burning for Lee Jong Suk

FotorCreated.jpg

We all love Lee Jong Suk so much that even though we’ve already had a Fangirl Stalking post in his honor, we decided to update our previous post and send one of our favorite actors off to the military in true Dramas With a Side of Kimchi style.  Our lovely Kmuse wrote the original post.

Lee Jong Suk has been a bias of mine from way back.  Maybe not Secret Garden days, but definitely by School 2013.  So I am thrilled to do a Lee Jong Suk edition of Fangirl Stalking.

The Rules of Fangirl Stalking:

We will start with the dramas I think are must watch works by the actor.  Followed by the shows that could go either way.  This means that they are worth watching in my opinion, but I know there are some people who don’t like the genre.  Lastly, we will cover the dramas/movies that you really could skip and not miss much (at least in regards of the actor featured).  These are the shows that are for die-hard fans who want to watch everything.  So let’s jump into obsessing about Lee Jong Suk

Watch ASAP!

I Hear Your Voice

FotorCreated3.jpg
I know that a noona drama about a kid who can hear people’s thoughts doesn’t sound like a solid drama pick.  However, Lee Jong Suk plays the heck out of this character and makes me adore the premise.  The perfect blend of intense mystery and romantic hijinks knocked my fangirl socks off and made this drama my #1 Lee Jong Suk drama to date. Hmm…. is there such a thing as LJS socks?  I might need to invest in a pair.

 Pinocchio

FotorCreated1.jpg
Take the same writer, director, music supervisor, and the majority of the cast from I Hear Your Voice.  Then add Park Shin Hye who is unable to tell a lie and you have Pinocchio.  Just like the former drama, they mix comedy, melo, and mystery into a smooth show that highlights corruption in the media.  It also wins an award for having the best Park Shin Hye skinship scenes to date.  That alone puts it on my “must watch” list.

School 2013

FotorCreated2.jpg

BROMANCE GALORE!!!!!  Sure there is a great story about bullying in Korean’s school system and getting through high school with your sanity intact.  But the real draw is Lee Jong Suk and Kim Woo Bin’s epic bromance.  A bromance that surpasses the majority romantic OTPs (one true pairing) out there.

Since I couldn’t write about this drama without falling into a Heung Soo & Nam Soon Youtube ship black hole, I decided to share the love.  Enjoy.

When this post was first written, no one had a clue that was going to be the drama that would set the fangirl world on fire.  This drama’s OTP had amazing chemistry and we get the full Lee Jong Suk romantic leading man experience with brooding and amazing kisses.   Added by CLKYTTA

High Kick! The Revenge of the Short Legged

b25.jpg

I personally enjoy the High Kick series writer.  That said, not everyone likes the long episode count, quirky character arcs, and laugh track.  Also, be warned that this writer’s endings can be a bit lackluster.  I think that the great comedic moments outweigh the cons but it really depends on everyone’s personal drama taste.

Hot Young Bloods (Movie)

b9.pngAngsty thug teens growing up in the country and finding love. This movie had a lot of entertaining moments.  Sadly there were a lot of “meh” moments as well.  But with only a two hour commitment this movie is an easy Lee Jong Suk fix.

No Breathing (Movie)

b12.png

A movie about two swimmers trying to beat their own personal records and deal with emotional issues.  YAY!  But the real highlight is that Seo In Guk and Lee Jong Suk  are shirtless for huge chunks of the show.

b11.png

THATS RIGHT!  Lee Jong Suk and Seo In Guk are shirtless ……….a lot……… and showing off their sexy bodies.   Do we really need a plot at this point?  Sadly, if you disregard the sexiness level, the plot is just so so.  But it is easy to ignore because of the khottie eye candy.

For the Die Hard Fans

Secret Garden

b18.png

I love Secret Garden.  But when looking only at Lee Jong Suk’s character ……. well, he is a bit on the newbie side of the acting scale. But even with an uneven performance Lee Jong Suk’s charisma still shined through so it all turned out well in the end.

Doctor Stranger

FotorCreated5.jpg

Never have I wished a leading lady to just die (and stay dead) more than I did while watching this drama.  Lee Jong Suk did the best he could with the material given, but a crazy plot and a bad co-star caused this drama to be a huge flop.

Thanks for joining me as I waxed poetic about the talents of Lee Jong Suk.  Be sure to check back next week as we start our recaps of his newest drama W Two Worlds and check out the latest teaser HERE.  As always, feel free to leave comments on who you would like in future Fangirl Stalking posts.  There is a good chance they will come up in a future edition.

Til our next stalking adventure,

Kmuse

As several of our favorite actors prepare to leave for their required military enlistments we will be releasing several special Fangirl Stalking editions.  Let us know who you will miss the most and we will try to give the the full Fangirl treatment!

  1. Is anyone leaving the military to replace all these awesome stars going into the military this year? They are taking too many of the good ones.

  2. My favourite of LJS drama is W Two Worls. He is more mature and looks so dashing in that drama. Han Hyo Jo also get along with him.

In future I would like Fangirl Stalking stalk on the underdog actors such likes Kwak Dong Yeon, Jin Goo, Ji Il-Joo, Ji Soo… they are good actors but had been offered to take the leading role yet.

  3. Doctor Stranger is a pity because his acting is really excellent in it, but the plot is a hot mess. Plus WHY didn’t they change the storyline when it was running when they saw there was more chemistry with the second lead girl than the first??

W will always be my favorite, though. I agree with azurachan–he’s no schoolboy, but all grown up there, plus his chemistry with HHJ was over the top. (Plus the storyline was amazing. He does know how to pick out a good script!)

  4. Another film he’s in–As One. He’s just a side character, on a North Korean ping pong team (true story of a joint N-S ping pong team that won some international title together, starring Ha Ji Won). I don’t know how old he’s supposed to be, but he looks seriously, no older than 12. This girl from the South likes him, and he is terrified that she might touch him or something. It’s kinda hilarious, given his current reputation for kissing scenes…
