14 Days of Fangirling: Day 3

Sometimes you just can’t help but fall for a bad boy.  Come join The Fangirls as we chat about the villains we would totally date.

Day 3 – The Villain you could look past their evilness to date – mostly because they are hot being evil.

I’m ashamed to admit it but in Mask, I had a hot dirty crush on the psychopathic brother in law, Min Seok Hoon. That guy did the steamy evil like the devil himself and I couldn’t help getting all hot and bothered whenever he was manipulating people or brooding and plotting or… you know… murdering people. I SAID I WAS ASHAMED!

Also, I don’t know if this one counts, but I loved me some Shin Si Gi from Heal Me Kill Me. He was the evil personality of the lead, but also not… Can’t get too into that without spoiling the plot but of all the personalities, that one was definitely the sexiest.

I couldn’t believe that I fell so hard for crazy serial killer little brother Min (Park Bo Gum) in I Remember You.  Who knew that I would be praying that the dysfunctional serial killer could evade capture and live to be hot and vengeful for another day.

I also fell HARD for serial killer Bo Gum.  He was just so broken.  I wanted to hug him instead of have him pay for his crimes.  I also kind of fell for the brother in Pinocchio. Yes, he killed three people, but he was such a good person besides that whole murdering thing…

Nam Goong Min in Sensory Couple.  I was ok with him being a killer, he could cook, he was gorgeous and he had a slight problem with putting barcodes on people.  Who was I to judge him for having a macabre hobby?  His little smirk just gets me every single time.

.;a1.pngI second the hotness of all the bad guys listed above. My personal pick is Tuoba Yu played by Vannes Wu in Princess Wei Young. I confess I didn’t finish watching this drama, but when I was watching it I was watching for Wei Young and sexy Tiger Prince. He was cunning and ruthless. Only looked out for himself, and Wei Young after he fell for her. He was the only prince among them that could keep up mentally with Wei Young and had they actually joined forces everyone might have lived. Or not. Because Prince Yu would have killed them all but our couple would have been together, and then I’d be happy. I guess intellect is sexier than pretty and boring.

This question was so much fun to answer.  Be sure to check back tomorrow as we chat best on screen smoochers!  You can also find our past Fangirling posts HERE!

  1. I need to see what one with Park Bo Bum.

Well, I’m picking Kim Bum in Mrs. Cop 2. I knew he was bad, and I truly believe he could one day rock the best of the older actors that play awesome bad guys you love to hate, but I just gosh darn smiled every time he was on the screen.

  2. I’ve watched very Dramas in which the main villain had any appeal. It seem women seldom get to be the central antagonist, except perhaps in sageuks, whixh I don’t watch. So I could only think of two names here, and one of them was from a sageuk, of sorts. The VERY lovely Jeon Hye Bin’s character in Joseon Gunman was definitely a villain, but she was also a complex and well-portrayed character. And so very, very, very pretty.

  3. Lee Soo Hyuk’s killer vampire in Scholar Who Walks th Night. I only watched because of him and his hotness. He made one heck of a vampire.

  4. More recent bad guy Choi Tae Ho played by Choi Tae Joon. Cold blooded murderer, but then he looks at you and my thoughts went to la la land.😀
Kim Bum and his smile, dang! And I like Shin Se Gi better, maybe it’s the eyeliner.

  5. Oh yes! Great list! All great choices. I’d probably choose Nam Goong Min again in Can You Hear My Heart? Though, I’m not certain if he was the villain in that show or not. I mean, he was certainly close to it at points, but I guess more of an anti-villain. Also I was crushing on Yeon Jung Hoon in Mask. 😀

  6. Vanness Wu was my favorite part of The Princess Wei Young – he really should have teamed up with her. Might just have been the braids . . .

I think being an effective villain is actually a harder role than a lead and that might be why they stick with us. Although I hated her, Go Hyun Jung as Lady Mi Shil in Queen Seon Duk was crazily charming and willing to fight to the last drop of blood. I remember her scenes more than the Queen’s.

Also, one of my favorite trope is revenge gone bad – you know, when the lead thinks he’s getting revenge but he really just drives the heroine away and is stuck with all the crappy girls.

My favorite example is the slap-kiss lakorn Sawan Biang where the lead Kawee keeps doing terrible things to Narin in order to get one up in revenge on her sister. He is definitely the villain of the piece – until he grovels his way out of this muck into being the hero. It takes all the way to the last episode for him to figure this out, too!

This also works for heroines as well. Only I often feel a little bad for the evil girls who are basically forced to behave like that in order to support their families or to get ahead. I’m thinking of Uhm Hyeon Kyeong as Hyeon Myeong Yi in Best Wedding. She was actually a nice girl working hard until she fell into bed with No Min Woo’s Park Tae Yeon and decided to sleep and lie her way into the good life. I hated her and I wanted to whisk her away as well. It really kind of ruined that show for me.

Can’t wait to see what’s up tomorrow!

  7. For me it was also Park Bo Gum in I Remember You. I started the drama because Seo In Guk, but I fell hard for his little bro…
I can also mention the dark combo of Choi Min Soo and Yoo Seung-Ho in Warrior Baek Dong Soo. They were so intense and hot as the baddies.
