The Fangirls Day 15 – 30 Day Asian Drama Challenge

FotorCreated15

Everything is going along fine and BAM! your drama suddenly goes in a horrible direction.  For Day 15 we chat dramas that ended up being a total waste.

DAY 15: Drama you watched in full, but ended up being a waste in retrospect.

KdramaJen:  Let me see…  Shall I babble on about Blood?  Oh, wait, I couldn’t get through it, so that one doesn’t count.  I don’t know if any are really a waste. I am fairly easily entertained, so I usually get something out of every drama. There have been some really crummy and dissatisfying endings, though.  Idle Mermaid (Surplus Princess) was really cute, but them it fizzled.  The first part had me hooked, introduced me to “Apple Butt” and featured the scene stealing Kim Seul-gi, so it wasn’t completely wasted.  I guess I tend to abandon the really awful ones, so it’s hard for me to answer. I have been disappointed in endings (I am looking at you, Shine and Go Crazy), but I still took away something.

CLKYTTA: Shine or Go Crazy, I wanted to like it so much and I kept waiting for it to redeem itself, but in the end I wanted those hours of my life back.  I actually yelled at my laptop screen and threw a foot stomping hissy fit because I couldn’t believe the ending was so crappy.

Drama Geek: I have two: Mirae’s Choice. The show is about choice and there is never a choice made. Yeah, just don’t. Vampire Detective. You can read the series final episode recap if you’re curious why. But run as far away from this show as you can. Especially if you like vampires or logic.

KMUSE: I also give a shout out to avoid Vampire Detective and while we are on the topic of vampires, I also finished Blood.  Another to avoid at all costs.  But my all time least favorite ending is for the drama I Summon You Gold

SPOILERS………………

We see the leading man fall in love with the leading lady for 40 episodes.  It is super cute and not too icky considering she is the twin sister of his estranged wife.  And then the writers went insane and hooked him back up with his wife and the girl that he fell in love with (for forty freaking episodes) was OK with it.  WHAT THE FUDGE?????  Worst plot twist/ending ever.

Grrr… I am annoyed just thinking about how many hours I wasted watching some of these dramas.  Which drama makes you wish you had your 16+ hours back?  Let us know in the comments and check back tomorrow for an all new challenge.

See you tomorrow,

The Fangirls

  1. Hahaha. Vampire detective will always be on my list. And the also more recently concluded Jackpot. I’d stuck through because of my loves Jang Geun Seuk and Yeo Jin Goo. Needless to say, I want the 12 weeks I’d spent on that waste of time, waste of space and waste of my intelligence drama. Argh! In Jwa, may you be punished for putting me through this crap!

I also tend to drop dramas when they start annoying me, so I had a hard time with this question…
But I am tempted to mention “Cheese in the Trap”. It wasn’t a complete disaster, the dramas you mentionned sound worse, but I was still disappointed in how the story and the character development stopped progressing at one point. It was especially frustrating because it started real good. And the ending felt soooo wrong…

    WARNING SPOILER!!!

… especially that car accident. Seriously. When car accidents occur towards the end of a drama, you can tell for sure that the writers didn’t know what to do with the plot anymore, and had to resort to that old, awful, overused “plot twist”. The only worse thing that can happen, in my books, is that amnesia occurs following the accident. Thankfully it wasn’t the case here. But still. Grrrrrr.

    END OF SPOILER

Okay, apart from this one, I can’t think of any that, at least not that I would have watched until the end.

Wang’s Family. It started off ok, Lee Yoon-ji and Han Joo-wan were cute, but the mother was a pain, and so was her oldest daughter. Then, in the 20s, the story rapidly derailed. Daughter-in-law selection games? (Among other things) The ending was inane, even for a family drama.

Gu Family Book. And I love Lee Seung-gi. Where was the book? Where did the plot go? Why were the props so terrible?

I quit Vampire Detective , sadly, and Blood also. But the worst is Yong Pal…started as fun and exciting and turned stupid and boring. That’s just criminal!

Doctor Stranger…. why? It had pretty good potential and I kept on thinking it would redeem its self but no. Also I am going to second Shine or Go Crazy, I threw things…lots of things.

Haha, I remember I Summon You Gold. I watched the whole thing because I wanted to see if the writer could somehow resolve the situation. In an American soap, he would have gone ahead and married the good twin, but in Korea, nope. In the end the writer couldn’t write herself out of that hole. I was reading the Soompi forums on that, I’ve never seen people so mad.

The ending scene with her sadly alone watching the brothers happily paired off was so disappointing. The most deserving, likable character got the consolation prize of a career and not even the hint of a future romance like in King of High School. Be a self centered horrible person who treats people like crap and you will still end up with your OTP because, God forbid, they should divorce and move on.

  8. Glamorous Temptation. OMG. I watched it cause I love Joo Sang Wook, and he kept me watching thru a lot of makjang insanity. But that ENDING??? There simply wasn’t enough decent plot to redeem the hours I spent watching that show just to end up there. I HATE fake saints like that female. WHAT a selfish passive aggressive byotch!!!! My consolition is that JSW started dating Cha Je Rung (the SECOND lead female LOL) in real life! HA!
I can’t say Vampire Detective was a waste cause I flat-out watched it for Lee Joon. The visuals LOL Some of the episodes were interesting – it had episodic qualities. I did hate the lack of any conclusions at the end, tho 😦
Blood didn’t bother me 😀 Except for his buddy the computer genius. THAT bothered me 😦

There aren’t too many dramas that I felt I wasted time on that I FINISHED. I tend to watch them until I just can’t deal with the stupidity, or find out the ending is F’d up, or I’m basically falling asleep during episodes. Then I drop them LOL

Fall in Love with Me is by FAR the worst trainwreck I’ve managed to sit all the way through. To this day Beatrice Fang’s face and voice makes me fly into a screaming rage. I would have THROWN her off the cliff myself, had I been present. Not to mention Tia Li’s character is whiny, spineless, talentless, AND helpless, making for one of the most, if not THE most frustrating drama I’ve ever finished meanwhile resisting the urge to hurl my TV out the window at unsuspecting passers-by.

  11. Um, I made it to episode 35 of The Interperters and can’t seem to bring myself to watch the last 7 episodes because the female lead is lying soooooo much… and the brother is really working my last nerve. I really was into this show, but it quickly lost it’s charm.
Also I’ll add Monster to the wasn’t quite what I’d hoped for pile. But Vampire Detective wins hands down!

She Was Wow. It’s my lowest scoring drama ever at 2/10. Lots of nasty, screeching, vicious people running around doing dumb things. It was intended to be a dark satirical comedy, but it failed miserably, in my opinion. Wasted an excellent cast, too.
